Busy Summer: Edits – Recent Cruise – New Job

I came back from a cruise to promptly receive developmental edits in my inbox, which explains the lack of posts. For this round of edits, I am just making a number of general improvements. My editor, Alissa Davis, had some great ideas–as usual–how to make the story better, and I have added about 3000 words to the story so far. I don’t think it will reach 40,000 words, but it might come close. It has been a lot of work–much more than I put in while editing The Sevenfold Spell. I think I’m pickier these days.

The cruise? Yes, I was on a cruise. I don’t announce these things in advance anymore–it’s just not safe–but I took a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean with my entire family. I was in a bit of a quandary as to who to put down as emergency contact because all the usual names were going along with us. That ship–Freedom of the Seas–was so huge that we could not help but to get a lot of exercise and I didn’t gain a pound. Despite eating a lot of junk.

And finally, I am about to embark on a career change. I started out in the world of business as a computer programmer, then I moved into being a business analyst, and now I am moving out of IT all together to become a product manager. It involves a lot of skills that I’m good at (analysis, writing, presenting) and I can’t wait to get started.

So yeah–busy summer! What has kept you busy this summer?

  3. That IS a busy summer! Sounds like you had fun on the cruise (I’ve never been on one–was it terribly crowded?) and yay for the edits and the new job! In fact, yay for you in general 🙂 You’re rocking it, baby.

    Thanks, everyone!

Deborah, the cruise boat was huge, so it did not seem crowded. I have been on crowded boats before–no fun! This ship was so large that we got a lot of exercise.

Sometimes it seems that nothing happens for month after month, and then everything happens at once. 🙂

  5. I’ve heard a lot about the Freedom of the Seas and would love to do a cruise on this ship. Congrats on the new job and the upcoming release.

Thanks. It was a great cruise and you get a lot of exercise just going from one place to another!
